BRASILIA, Brazil – Andrei Arlovski, Gleison Tibau, Godofredo Pepey and Piotr Hallmann were awarded performance bonuses by the Ultimate Fighting Championship for their fights at UFC Fight Night 51 on Saturday. Each fighter earned $50,000 for outstanding performances in their fights during the event available on UFC Fight Pass.
The Knockout of the Night went to No. 14 heavyweight contender Andrei “Pitbull” Arlovski (23-10, 1 NC) for his first round knockout of No. 4 contender Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (18-6, 1 NC). As the pair squared off and battled for center octagon, Arlovski was using his speed to cut in and cut out with hit and run strike combinations. As Silva attempted to press forward, “Pitbull” caught him with a solid straight right that knocked him to the mat where the Russian finished him with hammer fists until the fight was stopped.
The Fight of the Night went to the co-main event lightweight bout between Gleison Tibau (39-10) and Piotr “Pletwal” Hallmann (15-3) that Tibau won by a split decision (29-28 two cards, 28-29). The Brazilian was able to get five takedowns while not suffering one himself but did trail by 12 strikes when the fight went to the judges. Tibau controlled first two rounds from Hallmann with heavy strikes and takedowns that kept the Pole off-pace. Hallmann upped the pace and was far more aggressive in the third round but was too little too late for two of the three fight judges.
The Submission of the Night went to Godofredo Pepey (12-3) for his first round submission of Dashon “Flyboy” Johnson (9-2) in a featherweight bout. The two fighters had an uneventful first round as both sized one another up without firing off many strikes. Later in the round Johnson slammed Pepey to the mat where and in the process was caught in a triangle armbar that he couldn’t escape. The win by submission was the second consecutive submission victory for the Fortaleza native who evened his mark in UFC at 3-3.
