BRASILIA, Brazil – Glieson Tibau (40-10), Leonardo Santos (14-4-1), Santiago “Gente Boa” Ponzinibbio (20-2), Iuri Alcantara (32-5, 1 NC), Jessica “Bate Estaca” Andrade (12-3) all earned victories in UFC Fight Night 51 on Saturday night in Brazil.
Tibau took a hard fought split decision (29-28 two cards, 28-29) in a lightweight bout over Piotr Hallmann (15-3) for his second straight win. Tibau was out-struck by Hallman but had five takedowns to none in a fight that was pretty even and it showed on the scorecards.
In another lightweight bout Santos earned a three round unanimous decision (29-28 all cards) win over Efrain “Hecho en Mexico” Escudero (23-9) to improve to 2-1 in Ultimate Fighting Championship fights. Escudero won the striking battle by seven strikes but Santos had a 2-to-0 takedown advantage when the fight went to the judges.
In a welterweight collision Pinzinibbio knocks out Wendell Oliveira (24-9) in the first round to even his UFC mark at 1-1. Oliveira opened with strikes but Pinzinibbio caught him a left to the jaw that wobbled Oliveira. The Angentinian unloads on Oliveira with a series of heavy shots that knock him to the mat forcing referee Mario Yamasaki to stop the fight. Once the Brazilian came to he was not happy with the fight stoppage.
No. 7 bantamweight contender Alacantara faced a tough challenge in Russell Doane (14-5) but managed to pull out the win by unanimous decision (29-28 all cards). The bout between the two went back-and-forth and Alacantara landed 13 more strikes but was behind on takedowns at a 6-to-2 margin when the fight went to the judges.
The women’s bantamweight fight on the card was a short one as No. 10 contender Andrade captured another win with a submission victory to ruin Larissa Pacheco’s (10-2) UFC debut. Andrade led by 13 strikes and a takedown before locking in a guillotine choke that led to the Pacheco’s tap.
