UFC Fight Night DH Features MacDonald-Saffiedine Main Event

rory-macdonald-ufc-1742The Ultimate Fighting Championship has a double-header of fights scheduled for Saturday headlined by the welterweight matchup between top-ranked fights as Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffiedine face off. UFC Fight Night will take place in Stockholm, Sweden at noon eastern on UFC Fight Pass and in Halifax, Canda at 6:00 pm on FoxSports1 on Saturday.

UFC Fight Night Stockholm will kick things off with a welterweight fight as Niklas Backstrom looks to stay unbeaten as he faces Mike Wilkinson who is trying to rebound from his first professional loss to Rony Jason in June of 2013. Backstrom is 8-0 with a no contest while “The Warrior” is 8-1.

Next up in Stockholm is a light heavyweight as Ilir Latifi seeks his third straight win and the opportunity to ruin the UFC debut for Jan Blachowicz. “The Sledgehammer” is 10-3 with a no contest while the Pole is 17-3 coming into the matchup. Akira Corassani has won 3-of-4 UFC fights and wants back in the win column after a loss to Dustin Poirer and will try to do so against Max Holloway who has won three straight fights of his own. The Swede is 14-5-1 while “Blessed” is 10-3.

Gunnar Nelson is the No. 12 ranked Gunnar Nelson looks to remain unbeaten as he faces Rick Story in a welterweight bout in the UFC Fight Night Stockholm Main Event. “Gunni” is 13-0-1 and has won four straight UFC fights and takes on “The Horror” who is 17-8 with a win in his last fight.

The action shifts across the pond as bantamweights get the action started with Mitch Gagnon looks for his fourth straight UFC win against Roman Salazar who is making his UFC debut. The Canadian is 11-2 while “El Gallito” is 9-2. Then a pair of lightweights look to move to 2-0 in the UFC as Nordine Taleb faces Li Jingliang in the next fight. Taleb and “The Leech” are both 9-2 coming into the fight and 1-0 in UFC competition.

Then The Ultimate Fighter Champion Elias Theodorou puts his unbeaten record up against Bruno Santos in a middleweight bout. “The Spartan” is 9-0 and 1-0 in the UFC while “Carioca” is 14-1 with his only loss being against a UFC opponent. Another The Ultimate Fighter Champion, unbeaten Chad Laprise takes on Yosdenis Cedeno in a lightweight tilt. “The Disciple” is 9-0, 1-0 in the UFC while “The Pink Panther” is 10-3, 1-1 in the UFC.

Then the co-main event is a battle of bantamweight contenders as the No. 4 ranked Raphael Assuncao puts his six-fight winning streak on the line against No. 12 contender Bryan Caraway who is on a two-fight streak of his own. The Brazilian is 21-4 with a win a year ago against current UFC Bantamweight Champion T.J. Dillashaw while “Kid Lightning” is 19-7 and looking for his first win against a top contender.

The main event pits welterweight contenders in an amazing matchup between No. 2 contender Rory MacDonald and No. 9 ranked Tarec Saffiedine. “Ares” is 17-2 and coming off a win over No. 3 ranked Tyron Woodley in a unanimous decision while “Sponge” is 15-3 and looking for his second win since joining UFC after rising to the top of his division in Strikeforce.
