AUSTIN, Texas – The Ultimate Fighting Championship set the headline bouts for UFC event in Texas on November 22 with a featherweight contest between No. 3 ranked contender Frankie Edgar and No. 2 contender Cub Swanson in a five-round main event while lightweights No. 11 Edson Barboza and No. 7 Bobby Green do battle in the co-main event.
Swanson (21-5) will enter the bout on a six-fight winning streak having gone nearly three years without a loss. His last five wins have been against fighters currently ranked in the Top 15 in their respective weight classes having beaten No. 15 lightweight contender Ross Pearson to begin the run that has seen him take down the likes of No. 14 contender Charles Olivera, No. 5 contender Dustin Poirer, No. 11 contender Dennis Siver and No. 10 contender Jeremy Stephens. Swanson has finished in four of the six wins in the streak.
Swanson will face former UFC Lightweight Champion Edgar (16-4-1) who has been victorious in his last two fights with wins over Olivera and former UFC Lightweight and Welterweight Champion “The Prodigy” B.J. Penn (16-10-2). “The Answer” lost back-to-back fights to No. 4 lightweight contender Benson “Smooth” Henderson who beat him to take the lightweight crown and then won the rematch as well. Edgar then lost a UFC Featherweight title fight to champion Jose Aldo.
“King” Green (23-5) has won eight consecutive fights and is unbeaten in UFC competition. Green most recently defeated No. 6 lightweight contender Josh Thomson in a split decision at UFC Fight Night in July.
Green will take on “Junior” Barboza (14-2) who has won four of his last five fights with his only loss in the stretch coming at the hands of No. 5 contender Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a first rounds submission in April. Barboza’s last win was a first round knockout of Evan Dunham in July and the Brazilian is looking for his first Top 15 win in UFC.
